Program Notes

The Star Spangled Banner

Theme from "Star Trek: The Movie" (1979)

Around the World in 80 Days

Theme from "Oblivion"

"Mars: Bringer of War" from The Planets

This arrangement by MSO's very own Steve Burch features soloist Malia Johnson.

The Theme of the Original Star Trek from the 60’s was written by Alexander Courage. We’re presenting a lighter version of the theme of Star Trek: The Next Generation by Jerry Goldsmith. The Theme was originally used for the Star Trek the Motion Picture. Jerry Goldsmith subsequently wrote the themes for Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and Star Trek: Voyager, Plus a number of the films, Star Trek: the Motion Picture; Star Trek IV and V; Insurrection and Nemesis.

A new Medley by Conductor Charles Fernandez celebrating the wonderful music and melodies written by Victor Young. A taste of old Hollywood and a Classic film.

Astor Piazzolla, one of the world’s most famous Argentinian Composers, wrote Oblivion in 1982, and was used in the 1984 Italian film Enrico IV (Henry IV). It is considered one of his most famous tangos. This performance features MSO's principal oboist: Ian Dahlberg

While not technically “film” music, the rhythms of mars are used in virtually every sci-fi film in existence. The music is instantly recognizable and has an immediate effect on the listener!
