Tribute to James Song

Dear MSO Musicians:

James Song, our beloved founding music director and conductor, has officially announced his retirement from Moorpark Community College, and the Moorpark Symphony Orchestra.

Even though all of us are saddened to see him leave, we are happy for him in this new chapter of his life, and are all thankful for the decades of wonderful musical memories we’ve shared together.

James has expressed how much he will miss everyone, and he has encouraged us to keep the music playing. Although he won’t be able to join us in the near term due to his retirement plans to relocate out of the area, we have extended the invitation to Maestro Song to join us as a guest conductor in the future.

As a tribute to James, and his passion for music education, the orchestra will establish a scholarship fund in his name to benefit deserving young musicians to pursue their musical dreams.

It is nearly impossible in this short space to pay tribute to all that Maestro Song has accomplished. For that reason, we have set up this page on our website where you can share your stories & photos of the MSO’s years with Maestro Song!

Please add your stories & tributes to Maestro Song in the comment section below.
